Roomba
Roomba is a robot hoover/vacuum cleaner.

Please feel free to use Roomba but he does need a bit of care to ensure he does not try to hoover up shoe laces, phone cables etc and his dust container needs emptying after each clean. So if you think it will be too much of a pain just ignore this section!

Roomba is controlled through Alexa. There are two commands:

We would suggest you set Roomba going when you go out in the morning.

Roomba instructions can be found here

Finally, there are large bins (no recylcing) in rue des Etats-Uni as shown on the map below.

Activities

Most people's reason for coming to Cannes is to relax on the beach and soak up the sun and if you are looking for a private beach we highly recommend our favourite Mademoiselle Gray.

However in case your looking for other things to do in and around the area, here are a few suggestions.

Old Town - Le Suquet

The old part of Cannes, is well worth a visit. Parts of Notre Dame d'Esperance church date from the early 16th century. The views are lovely.

There are one or two nice restaurants on the rue Meynardier, I am not very keen on most of the restaurants in this part of the town.

Iles Lerins

The Iles Lerins off the coast of Cannes are delightful to visit and we highly recommend a trip over to them during your stay. There are two main islands the Ile Saint Marguerite and the Ile Saint Honrat.

The ile Saint Honrat is home to Lérins Abbey. To quote the Cannes Tourist Office: "The island was founded by Saint Honorat in the 5th century. It exudes an air of spirituality and boasts vestiges of the past (monastery, fortifications, chapels). The island is owned by a commune of Cistercian monks who grow vines and produce a reputable wine."

Also within the abbey is the La Tonnelle restaurant. A delightful restaurant set on the North side of the island.

The course is open to anyone with proof of handicap and greens fees are €150 per person. Reservations are recommended.

The second smallest country in the world packs a lot in:

  • Musee Oceanographique de Monaco
  • The Motor Museum
  • The Exotic Gardens
  • The Casino Square
  • The Palace
  • The Japanese Gardens
  • The Casino

Villa Ephrussi

The Villa Ephrussi and its gardens is one of the most magnificent villas on the whole of the Cote d'Azur. The Villa Ephrussi was built in the early part of the 20th century with construction commencing in 1905 and Baroness Beatrice Ephrussi (nee de Rothschild) moved in in 1912.

The villa, both exterior and interiors, and the gardens are equisite and are well worth a visit.

The villa is 30 minutes on foot from Beaulieu sur Mer station and there is also parking at the villa

Cannoeing

Canoeing in the Baie de Cannes - what fun. Canoes can be hired at the Palm Beach end of the Croisetter for a very reasonable €35 per day from Kayak iles Lerins.

Running

If you are a runner it does not get much better than running along the Croissette in Cannes. My usual 5 kms route can be found here. For something longer Theoule and back is almost exactly a half marathon!

Restaurants

For a guide to our guide to restaurants in Cannes and surrounding towns on the Cote d'Azur please visit the restaurant guide on the web site.

Shops

The main shopping in Cannes is on the Croisette and the rue d'Antibes and the streets running between them. Though there are some interesting shops to be found on the streets to the north of the rue d'Antibes. It is bounded on the West by rue du Marechal Joffre and on the East where the rue d'Antibes meets the Boulevard d'Alsace.

Where to start? Cannes has it all. From the most famous names in Haute Couture - you will find Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton and Yves Saint Laurent, to name a just few, on the Croisette. There are high end jewellers (like Cartier on the Croisette. The famous rue d'Antibes, which is only 50 metres from the apartment is home to countless well know shops and small boutiques alike offering everything from "High Street" fashion (Zara), small specialist shoe shops, of which there are many, to works of art, antiques, home furnishings and beach wear.

Also on the rue d'Antibes you will find FNAC and Darty.

You can find almost everything in Cannes if you search long enough! Just let yourself wander around the streets and you will be amazed at what you can find. Happy shopping!

The first two weeks of July and January are particularly good times for shopping as this is when Cannes holds its annual sales. There are some extraordinary bargains to be had.

Markets

Marché Forville
Absolutely not to be missed is the Forville market (Place du Marché Forville; every morning except Mon). To quote Anthony Peregrine of The Daily Telegraph, "Here is a vast Provençal larder where asceticism comes to die. If you are self-catering or planning a picnic, then this is the spot to head for." There are a myriad of cafes around the market including an outpost of Copenhagan Coffee Lab so why not set off early, take breakfast and spend some time in one of the most splendid markets I have seen in my 40 year of visiting and living in France. This is not just a fruit and vegetable market. There is every food stuff imaginable, fresh pasta, dried spices and herbs, fish (of course), a salt stall, a mushroom seller and fresh flowers. This market has to be seen to be believed.

This is generally considered the best market on the Cote d'Azur. Every day except Monday.

Place Gambetta
On the Place Gambetta, every day except Monday (and as of summer 2018, there are a few fruit and veg stands on a Monday as well) there is wonderful market for fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, fish, dried meats and much more.

The Place Gambetta is the place to do food shopping.

Supermarket Monop
34 rue Hoche.
Opening Hours:
Monday to Saturday 07:30 – 24:00
Sunday 09:00 – 22:00

The supermarché Mon’op is situated at 34 rue Hoche on a brand new, as of May 2018, site. This supermarket is great and has all you need for your stay in Cannes. Open every day. Probably more expensive than the larger supermarkets but very convenient.

Just off the Place Gambetta are some wonderful speciality food shops such as:

Naturalia
Place Gambetta.
Opening Hours:
Monday to Saturday 08:00 – 20:00
Sunday 09:00 – 18:00
Naturalia is a fantastic organic and health food shop. Offering a superb range of organic, vegan, vegetarian and health foods.

Aperitiv
12 rue Teisseire, Place Gambetta.
Opening Hours:
Monday to Friday 10:00 – 13:00, 15:30 – 19:30
Saturday 10:00 – 13:00, 14:30 – 19:30
Sunday Closed
